No, learning diasbled college students have average or above average intellectual ability. However, they do not perform academically as expected, due to their difficulties in processing, storing, retrieveing, or producing verbal and nonverbal information.
2. Isn't "learning disabled" another label for slow learners or educationally, disadvantaged students?
No, Slow learners exhibit learning problems due to their limited intellectual ability, while educationally disadvantaged students perform below average because of a lack of educational opportunities. In the case of learning disabled individuals, their inability to perform well in specific areas is caused by underlying cognitive weaknesess.
